In a recent project in Botswana, a country known for its abundant sunlight, we faced the challenge of designing a solar street light system that could power both LED chips and a 24V 8W light strip. The installation was for a factory exterior road, with lights installed at a height of 9 meters and arranged on one side of the road. The light strip needed to operate for 6 hours before automatically turning off, while the street light would continue to work for 12 hours. Our proposed solution was a 12.8V 36Ah battery paired with a 70W, 14,000-lumen all-in-one solar street light, with a 3-year warranty. The system was expected to run for up to 18 hours, providing sufficient endurance for Botswana’s sunny climate.

The primary challenge in this project was ensuring that the battery could simultaneously power both the LED chips and the light strip while maintaining stable circuit operation. To address this, we integrated a dedicated controller to manage the light strip independently. This controller ensures that the power distribution remains stable, preventing any fluctuations that could potentially damage the LED chips or affect the performance of the light strip.

A crucial aspect of the installation process involves the correct connection order of the light strip and street light. It is essential to connect the light strip before turning on any switches. If the switches are activated before the connection is made, it could damage the LED chips. To prevent this, we provided a detailed user manual and placed labels on the switches to remind the installation team of the proper procedure.
