What is the effect of the 2024 Hong Kong International Lighting Exhibition (Spring Edition)?

Table of Contents

On April 6-9th, we participated in the International Lighting Exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. We secured a booth in Hall D, located on the first floor, with an area of 36 square meters.

This time, we showcased over ten new products, and a split solar street light featuring AI vision sensing technology, which gained significant attention last autumn. We attended the exhibition as an outdoor lighting solution provider. Below is an overview of the exhibition, divided into four sections.

The visitor flow and the number of exhibitors

Compared to the Hong Kong Lighting Fair (Spring edition) in 2023, we noticed a significant decrease in visitor traffic this time around, and this observation is not unique to our company. We gathered insights from other exhibitors as well.

For instance, another exhibitor showcasing solar lights in Hall A on the first floor received 13 business cards on the first day. They mentioned that exhibitors on the third floor only received 2 business cards. In contrast, we, located near the entrance in Hall D, collected over 40 business cards. However, the visitor traffic decreased each day over the following three days.

Based on our observation (we toured all five floors), the second, fourth, and fifth floors are not used for the exhibition venue. There are relatively few exhibitors on the third floor, and neither the first nor the third floors are fully occupied by exhibitors.

So, both the number of buyers and exhibitors at this spring lighting fair has highly decreased compared to last year. However, customers’ quality has not declined; many customers who attended the event came with specific projects for negotiations, and the accuracy of acquiring customers has even improved.

Booth Concept: Outdoor Lighting Solutions

In addition to solar street lights and solar floodlights, we also showcased grid-powered street lights, floodlights, spotlights, and stadium lights at this exhibition. Furthermore, we have also reserved rich supplier resources for other categories such as mining lights, courtyard lights, etc., providing strong support for designing comprehensive outdoor and indoor lighting solutions for all application scenarios.

During the exhibition, two Indian businessmen, a manager, and an engineer, approached us with projects. They’re designing indoor lighting for a hall that spans 92 meters in length, and 42 meters in width and stands 10 meters tall. Additionally, there’s a 10-meter-wide pedestrian walkway outside the hall requiring one-sided street lighting for illumination.

Understanding the venue’s purpose—providing a space for people to chat, read, and relax—we aimed for an average ground illuminance conducive to comfortable reading. With no vehicular traffic expected outside, we recommended solar street lights at a height of 6 meters and a power rating of around 40W for the pedestrian area.

To meet their needs, we devised a solution that evening and arranged for further discussions the following day. For indoor illumination, we proposed 150W industrial lights with an efficacy of 130lm/W, targeting an average ground illuminance of 300lux. Outside, we suggested 40W all-in-one solar street lights, boasting an efficacy of 180lm/W. These lights would be positioned 15 meters apart at a height of 6 meters, delivering an average ground illuminance of 26lux. We follow EN13201:2015. Technological Breakthroughs and Product Highlights

Our current R&D focus is on innovating sensor technology and enhancing the power and luminous efficacy of integrated solar street lights.

AI Vision Sensor Solution

The difference from traditional infrared or microwave sensing lies in the fact that this technology can be installed on luminaires at heights above 8 meters, with a sensing range of 300 meters, a response time of 0.03 milliseconds, and the ability to detect vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

100W All-In-One Solar Street Light With 210lm/W Luminous Efficacy

Currently, our patented design product (SL-AIO-XC & SL-AIO-XC-A) has an actual power of 100W and a luminous efficacy of 210lm/W. The battery compartment can accommodate a 60Ah capacity battery, supporting 12 hours of operation even during two consecutive rainy days.

We use high-quality 3030 LED chips, employing a power reduction method to decrease the power of each chip to 0.2W. This approach enhances efficacy while reducing power consumption, which is beneficial for lowering operational heat, reducing required battery capacity, cutting product costs, and enabling high-power integrated street lights.

This grid-power street light uses a Mean Well Driver (can change to SRNE), equips a power outage switch for easy installation and safe maintenance, and can add a surge protector. Another advantage is 5 years warranty time.

New Products and R&D Directions

We received over 100 clients over four days. We listened to their valuable feedback and, leveraging our own research and manufacturing capabilities, decided to develop and launch 4 new products into the market within the next three months.

120W All-In-One Solar Street Light with 230lm/W Luminous Efficacy

We plan to develop a 120W integrated solar street light further using the SL-AIO-XC model battery compartment mold. In addition, we aim to optimize existing 3030 LED chip solutions or adopt 5050 LED chips to achieve an overall luminous efficacy of 230lm/W.

Light Sensing Function, Easy Replacement of Parts, Grid-Power Street Lights Without Exposed Screws

This new product has 4 features:

  • The light sensor automatically turns the lamp on and off, which saves energy.
  • Easy replaced components design on the back cover, convenient and safe for maintenance.
  • No exposed screws, it looks nice and modern.
  • Integrated connection part, more stable structure.

SL-CH 40W and 60W Iron Split Solar Street Light

With the same design, we will develop 40W and 60W split solar street lights with luminous efficacy of 130lm/W and 200lm/W two different options.

High Luminous Efficacy (180lm/W) Solar Flood Light

Based on the existing product mold, we will replace the LED chips and change the SMD2835 to SMD3030 to improve the heat dissipation capacity and luminous efficacy. We will also consider whether there is space to increase the battery capacity further. Finally, this 13W solar flood light has 2300lm brightness.

At this exhibition, we not only met many old friends, but also many new friends who gave us a lot of product suggestions. At the same time, we were convinced that our products have certain differences in the market and that our one-stop outdoor lighting solution capabilities can provide customers value.

We will continue to improve our services and improve the differentiated advantages of our products to bring more choices and value to our wholesale and project customers.
